Reverse-painted Glass and Wood Mirror. The technique of painting or illustrating glass and then displaying it with the painted side down (i.e., reverse-painted) originated in the town of Cajamarca, Peru. The method is ingenious in that it automatically protects the design from any damage. A thin layer of wood adheres to the glass and gives the frame or box its shape and also protects the art from behind. Measures approx 10 x 13.8 in. (25.5 x 35 cm.).
